Bombino is coming back to GROUNDS, this time with a brand new album! As pioneer of the next generation of Tuareg and new voice of the Sahel and Sahara, he puts an eternal sentiment to music and gives it a life of its own. His songs about peace and hope in trademark style fusing traditional Berber rhythms with the energy of rock and roll will take you on an intriguing journey through the rich cultural heritage of his people.

Actor, goatherd, politician and even private guide for Angelina Jolie during her visit to the Niger desert region: Bombino’s resume is impressive. And this is without even mentioning his role as a virtuoso musician. It all started at a young age with a guitar he borrowed from some relatives, mastering it thanks to the Ishumar songs he heard and videos of Jimi Hendrix, Mark Knopfler and Jimmy Page he watched. Quickly it became clear the little boy (bambino) had exceptional talent and soon he was asked to join his first band. Bombino was born!

His electrifying jams capture the spirit of resistance and rebellion while echoing with guitar riffs reminiscent of fellow Africans Tinariwen and Ali Farka Touré. Which is certainly the case on Sahel (2023), Bombino’s most personal, powerful and politically-minded album to date. The sonically diversity is meant to directly mirror the complex tapestry of cultures and people that make up the Sahel region itself. We’ll have to wait a little longer for the new album, but it already promises to be a unique nomadic experience, one that will be tighter and more energetic than ever before.
