In this unique collaboration, Ntjam Rosie and the 18-piece groove/funk big band Licks & Brains explore the boundaries between electronic dance, jazz and African music. The result is ‘Embrace The New’, a surprising album full of danceable songs like the new single ‘Keep Movin’, that they will present in a majestic way to the audience at Grounds.
Cameroon-born singer Ntjam Rosie blends jazz, soul, pop and African rhythms into a catchy whole like no other. With the release of her second album ELLE in 2010, she conquered hearts nationally and internationally and has since worked with many big names in the Dutch jazz scene, including the Artvark Saxophone Quartet, Bart Wirtz, Eric Vloeimans, Martin Fondse, Reinier Baas, Ronald Snijders and Teus Nobel.
The 18-piece Dutch big band Licks & Brains, led by one of the leading alto saxophonists Rolf Delfos, brings an appealing mix in which horns, electronic grooves and adventurous playing harmoniously blend into compositions that move between a heavy dose of jazz, afrofunk, minimal music, soul funk and dance. The band developed a unique live performance and has already collaborated with top artists from the Dutch and international jazz/funk scene such as Eric Vloeimans, Benjamin Herman, Anton Goudsmit, Mrs. Hips and Joseph Bowie (Defunkt). Together with Rosie’s powerful stage presence, they guarantee an explosive performance making it you impossible to stand still.
