The role
For our technical team, we are looking for a sound engineer who is at the start of their career and wishes to develop further within Grounds.
You already have some basic knowledge of and experience with live sound, but you certainly do not need to be an experienced sound engineer yet. Above all, we believe it is important that you are motivated, take responsibility and are keen to learn.
You’ll be part of our production team and will work under the supervision of our Production Manager/Lead Technician. You’ll be on technical duty during concerts, partner productions, rentals and other activities at our venues.
At Grounds, you’ll have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of productions and music genres, gain experience and become increasingly independent in your work.
What will you be doing?
- You will work shifts as a sound engineer during our productions.
- You will be responsible for the technical build-up and breakdown.
- You will supervise soundchecks and support artists during their performances.
- You will work with technical riders and learn to prepare and implement them.
- You will welcome artists and crews and act as their technical contact person during your shift.
- You will report technical issues and liaise with the Lead Technician where necessary.
- You will help to keep our technical equipment tidy and well-maintained.
- You will work closely with our producers, technicians and other colleagues in the venue.
What are we looking for?
- You have a basic knowledge of live sound and digital mixing desks.
- You already have some hands-on experience, for example through a training course, internship, your own productions or work at another venue.
- You don’t need to be an experienced sound engineer yet; we consider a motivation to learn and develop yourself to be just as important.
- You can work independently, but also know when to consult others or ask for help.
- You are flexible in terms of availability, mainly in the evenings and during weekends.
- You have an open and welcoming attitude towards artists, crews and visitors.
- You have good communication skills.
- A basic knowledge of lighting is an advantage.
What do we offer?
You will be offered a position for 12 hours per week. The role is classified in scale 4 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Venues and Festivals (NPF). Your pay grade within this scale will depend on your experience.
In addition, we offer:
- an 8% holiday allowance;
- pension accrual via PFZW;
- mentoring from our Production Manager/Lead Technician;
- plenty of practical experience with a wide range of artists, music genres and productions;
- opportunities to develop your skills as a live sound engineer;
- the chance to work with increasing independence and take on more responsibility within Grounds.
Interested?
Please send your CV and covering letter to zev@grounds.nu by 12 October at the latest, quoting ‘Sound Engineer Vacancy’ for the attention of Zev Oosterhout.
Please tell us about your existing experience with live sound and why you wish to develop your skills in this area.
