New Year's Party
Start 21:00
Winter has arrived, so the birds of passage of Trackvogels are once again heading off to warmer destinations. With rousing rhythms, driving guitar riffs and psychedelic synths, they take you on a fantastic musical journey to paradisiacal oases in North-West Africa and South America.
This Amsterdam collective flies across the stage like a flock of birds: energetic, playful, hypnotic and, above all, with purposeful precision. Trackvogels are always on the move, and it shows in their music. Whether they’re travelling to the ends of the world or just hanging out in their studio in Amsterdam-Noord, they find inspiration everywhere to make their extraordinary mix of different music styles that little bit more special.
By combining traditional influences from different parts of the world with an intergalactic touch, they really turn up the heat. Their deep bass, pulsating drums and raw energy will definitely get you sweating at GROUNDS.
Omar Ka & Bao Sissoko
Senegalese Rotterdam-based Omar Ka brings the rich musical tradition of the Fulani, West Africa’s largest nomadic people, to the GROUNDS Café. His eccentric voice and irresistible mix of Fulani folk, Dakar beats, Afro-reggae and Desert blues will leave no one unmoved. For this special occasion, he will be accompanied by Bao Sissoko, a masterful kora player who has previously performed with Baaba Maal, Zap Mama and Malick Pathe Sow. Together, they will take us on an intimate journey to their African roots.
This evening is hosted by DJ Gea Russell.
DJ Gea Russell, the man behind Rub Recordings and events such as The Writers Bench, is known in Rotterdam as the resident DJ of the legendary Numoon Festivals. With his surprising scratch mix of dub, jazz, hip hop, roots reggae and afrobeats, you can be sure of an adventurous afterparty.
