Imarhan is undoubtedly a key representative of the new Tuareg generation. In no time, they have become one of the most popular bands, breathing new life into Assouf, the blues of the desert. With masterful guitar playing and captivating rhythms, they celebrate the daily life of the passionate Kel Tamashek youth, caught between the immensity of the desert and city life.

Imarhan was formed in 2006 in Algeria by a group of close friends led by frontman Iyad Moussa Ben Abderahmane. Their sound reflects their diverse origins, a rare blend of their ancestral Tuareg roots, Sub-Saharan African ballads, and the pop rock influences from Algeria and the West that they listened to growing up. Imarhan’s music is energetic and upbeat, offering a fresh take on the desert blues style pioneered by Tinariwen.

The band has released several acclaimed albums on the City Slang label, including Imarhan (2016), Temet (2018), and Aboogi (2022). Currently they are preparing their new album, which is set to be released in 2026. This record will be raw, tight, without detours. Where tradition meets innovation, making them key figures in the new generation of Saharan music.
