This year we are going to celebrate Día de Muertos again with Lo Poloko! Lo Poloko is a collective of musicians whose roots run deep in Mexican, Chilean, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese cultures that found each other in Rotterdam. With their mind-blowing sound journey all around the world, they will make it yet another real Big Tropical Bang at GROUNDS this year.
From Mariachi balkan brass and bombastic latin grooves to hyper energetic percussion, a unique combination of sounds designed to make you dance as if it would be your last day on Earth.
“Día de Muertos” is a two day celebration that reunites the living and dead where families create “ofrendas” (offerings) to honor their departed family members that have passed, encouraging those departed souls to leave the land of the dead and celebrate with the living ones. Please feel free to bring your own “ofrendas” to the party and join us in this amazing celebration!
Having latin music as a core concept, Lo Poloko’s music is a perpetual search for new sounds, shredding countless different styles into Lo Poloko machine. Rock, Ska, Cumbia, Reggae, Balkan, Dub… they embrace them all!
Support act: Tres Ríos
Tres Ríos is a collective of musicians from Mexico and Spain, directed by Leonardo Prieto. They play son jarocho, a traditional music style from Veracruz, Mexico. This genre emerged from the blend of African, Spanish, and Indigenous influences during the colonial period, giving rise to a rich and vibrant musical tradition.
The music is joyful, accessible, and filled with poetry: sometimes melancholic, sometimes energetic, always rooted in culture and history. Their instrumental setup is rich and varied, featuring traditional Mexican guitars such as the jarana, leona, and requinto, alongside zapateado (tap dancing) and percussion.
Sanne Margarita
Sanne Margarita is a vinyl selectress from Amsterdam with a deep love for Afro-Caribbean rhythms. Growing up surrounded by music, she can’t help but immers herself in it and share it with others. From singing salsa, to playing her carefully selected vinyls. Many of which are sourced during her extensive travels to South America.
She loves blending genres into a flow that will either fill the dance floor, or create a moving listening experience. From the Pacific to the Caribbean shores, immerse yourself in a rich variety of tropical sounds.
