Plein Public will transform the Piet Heynsplein in Rotterdam-Delfshaven into a vibrant meeting place full of free concerts, theatre performances, workshops, and more. On Friday 29 May and 5 June, GROUNDS will make sure you start the weekend dancing. And are you curious about Plein Public’s full programme? Then have a look here!
The Bird Experience
The Bird Experience has been emerging from the underground anything but slowly. Their voodoo-infused psychedelic bluesrock ‘n soul moves with a strange magnetism, casting a spell on anyone who wanders too close.
Before playing a single live show, a booking agency and record label already stepped in, A bold first chapter that speaks volumes about the band’s drive and hints at an exceptionally bright future. On stage, the ritual deepens. Their performances are chaotic, hypnotic, and wildly unpredictable, with rhythm that coils around your spine and commands you to move whether you will it or not. In the meantime, they’ve already ticked off the renowned Roadburn and Bevrijdingsfestival. And Plein Public will soon be added to that list.
Their upcoming self-titled debut album delivers a wide range, from carnivalistic back-alley blues and freaked out anti-capitalist slow burns to catchy, foot-tappin’ funk. All while maintaining an overarching, distinctive sound. The harmonica isn’t a nostalgic throwback here. It’s a centerpiece, sometimes wielded like a weapon, other times like a lover’s voice. Classy as a crushed velvet glove, dirty as the floor it lands on.
Ruwhel & De Bigi Blues Band
Step into the world of Ruwhel and his Bigi Blues Band. Let yourself be swept away on a jazzy journey, infused with Caribbean hip-hop, and discover what the blues means to Ruwhel Emers.
The soulful band, the enchantingly seductive singer, and above all the charismatic frontman transport you to another reality. A world reminiscent of the Roaring Twenties, as captured by Baz Luhrmann in The Great Gatsby. And where blues brings colour to life. Because for Ruwhel, it is clear that blues is a powerful way of storytelling. A state of mind; a feeling. And what’s more, it’s brilliant to dance to.
This is evident on their debut album “Is Dit Nou Blues?”, where heavy, honest stories and celebrations go hand in hand. Oude Luxor, PAARD, Simplon, Bibelot, Merleyn: they all know how the winners of the 2022 Grote Prijs van Rotterdam get the crowd swinging. So Ruwhel & De Bigi Blues Band are all set to take Plein Public by storm. Because they’re here for a good time; a long time!
