Aesthetes know this: whether it’s music or alcohol, the most unlikely combinations sometimes lead to the strongest emotions. The Ukandanz cocktail has been proving itself for fifteen years with an explosive formula that has been constantly refined, both on stage and in the studio. The ancient rhythms of Ethiopia are still shaken up by garage rock and libertarian jazz. To those who wonder whether the heart of the swinging Addis scene of the 1960s still beats: Ukandanz proves it with great energy and enthusiasm.
The essence of this modern trance machine lies in the soul of Ethiopia. Ukandanz owns furthermore two fundamental elements: the elastic voice of Asnake Gebreyes, one of the leading figures of the modern Addis Adeba’s scene, and the compositions and arrangements of Damien Cluzel, a free electron who always feels great in musical crossovers. With traditionally inspired structures and controlled slippages of modernity, the fundamental polyrhythms continue to explode in contact with prog, punk and experimental rock.
Ukandanz’s sixth album is another cosmic explosion in the galaxy that the band self created fifteen years ago: Ethiopian music from the 70s pumped up on rock, noise and experimental hormones. The phenomenal Evil Plan is due to explode on Sunday 15th February, live at GROUNDS!
