In 2000, Izaline Calister made history with her extraordinary debut album on which she showcased Curaçao’s rich musical landscape. And now, to crown her career, after exactly 25 years and accompanied by great musicians, she tours again with her most beautiful and newest songs. So on 5 September, she will take us on an enchanting journey through her musical career.
Over those 25 years, Izaline Calister has developed into a versatile singer and songwriter, singing effortlessly in 5 languages. Her music is a fusion between the traditional music of her native island of Curaçao and jazz with Afro-Caribbean influences. Her voice sounds like a mix of Billie Holiday and Cesaria Evora. And with a endearing performance, she gets the audience sometimes dreaming, sometimes dancing.
Her work connects different language regions through translations and her own versions of Dutch and Curaçao songs. In doing so, she contributes to the awareness of Curaçao culture and Papiamentu, but also pays attention to more delicate themes such as Curaçao’s history of slavery. So for those who have not followed her, this will be a surprising concert. And those who have followed her over the past 25 years will certainly not want to miss this concert!
