The 7th of March, the Rotterdam based Latin-band Las Hienas and melancholic indie pop artist Hana Fatur organize a free concert for everyone to celebrate the International Women’s Day. Expect lots of girl power, so come to GROUNDS and join the party!
Las Hienas
Las Hienas is a captivating all-women band by eight musicians based in Rotterdam. Since their formation in January 2023, they have been dedicated to creating a powerful countermovement in the music industry, performing the works of female composers as well as their own music. Currently they are working towards an EP.
Their eclectic musical palette includes Afro-Cuban beats, contemporary salsa, Andean folk, traditional Caribbean rhythms, and the rich influences of Jazz. Las Hienas’ performances are electrifying and full of energy, which have already been presented to different audiences in The Netherlands and Germany and different festivals such as Días Latinos, North Sea Jazz Festival and Karneval der Kulturen (Berlin).
Support act: Hana Fatur
Hana Fatur is a melancholic indie pop artist, whose evocative songwriting and delicate voice guide us through the mosaic of her memories and inner emotional unrest. Her poetic songs about quiet loneliness, sleepless thoughts and deep sadness make for sensitive and lyric-focused music, which echoes Phoebe Bridgers’ dark sincerity and Daughter’s ambient sound.
The 23-year old singer-songwriter originates from a small country of Slovenia and is currently based in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. These days, after concluding her autumn Popronde tour, the 2024 winner of the Grote Prijs van Rotterdam is performing around the Netherlands and working on her debut EP, with its first two singles “Satellite” and “Follow South” already released.
Şeydâ Buurman-Kutsal – Argumentation training to refute everyday sexism: Goals, Roles, and Effects
Şeydâ Buurman-Kutsal will lead our workshop on behalf of international women’s march 7th from 16:00-18:00 in B.013. Register here.
Şhe is a senior trainer, supervisor, executive coach, and consultant. She has built extensive expertise in the fields of racism & discrimination, justice, diversity & inclusion, working in this area for over twenty years both nationally and internationally. She also provides workshops and training in the Blue Eyes Brown Eyes approach and is one of the few people personally trained by Jane Elliott. Şeydâ appeared on television in Het Grote Racisme Experiment (Watch here).
This session on march 7th focuses on “the uncomfortable conversation” about sexism and the role of self-reflection in these discussions. Many of us seek tools and strategies to engage in these conversations effectively. But what is your personal goal when discussing sexism? What do you want to achieve? Do you aim to fight discrimination, ensure that everyone can express their thoughts, or seek consensus? What statements in these discussions make you uncomfortable, and what does that reveal about yourself?
Şeydâ will show that understanding your own goals is a necessary condition for having meaningful and constructive conversations about sexism. In a safe and supportive environment, we will engage in deep discussions in small groups with people who share similar questions or needs.
Language: The workshop is going to be held in English or dutch.
This event is made possible with the support of Cultuur Concreet.
